Party planning tips to help you organize the perfect baby shower

There's always something special about doing the party planning for a baby shower. It seems that the joy and spirit of the event filters down even to the party planning stage, well before the event is underway! I'm sure that's why many people love to be involved in a baby shower. If you're a first timer at organizing these events, you might have a few questions that need answers. We'll run through some key ideas here, and later I'll show you where you can access even more information.

Remember why you're having this event in the first place - to pamper mommy-to-be, to pile up attention and support for her. Keeps this fact in mind throughout your party planning for the baby shower.

Are these events always held before the baby's born? Well, not always. Sometimes, there may be medical or other reasons to hold the celebration after birth. In such cases, the party planning is usually for an event about 4 to 8 weeks afterwards. In many cultures, this is the norm. But in the US as well as other locations, most baby showers are held about 4 to 8 weeks before the due date.

Can men be involved in this event? Increasingly, the answer is a definite yes. Although a couples' shower may have a different tone and tenor from a traditional female-only event, it's great fun, nevertheless. So don't leave men out when planning your next baby shower!

Should you always play games? To a large extent, this depends on the expectant mommy. If she does not want games, or is not into them, leave them out. That said, games can add energy and excitement to a baby shower, and certainly helps people mingle better.

Are favors essential? That depends on your area. Local practices vary considerably - giving favors is mandatory (almost) in some places, and against the norm in other locations. While doing your party planning, check out if favors were given out at other baby showers in your area. Ask friends and relatives to get an idea.

What kind of invitations should you send out? No norm, except to make sure they reflect the real spirit and joy of showers. If you can make them by hand, that may be the best option. Start your party planning and organizing early, if you take this route. If you want to buy readymade baby shower invitations, there are good selections available, both at local stores and online.
