Party activities for memorable baby showers

Great party activities can raise the excitement level at baby showers like few other things can. Games are the best way to create interaction and laughs at these celebrations. Some folks say there are two reasons they come to these events - to have punch and to have fun at party activities! Unless you have specific reasons to exclude them, consider having games at all baby showers you organize.

I've listed several here that have proven wonderfully effective at these events. See if you can use these to brainstorm new party activities yourself. Maybe you can combine or alter some of these baby showers games and make something original!

Fill in the blanks at random
Some party activities are designed for laughs. This is one such - try it at baby showers. Before the event, write down a short story about an incident in expectant mommy's life. Could be how she met her spouse, for example. Next, remove important phrases, names, etc that give meaning to the written story. Substitute numbers in their places.

This is where the laughs begin with these party activities. At the baby shower, tell guests that you have a story you want them to help you with. Don't read out the story - merely ask them what each number stands for. Re-construct the story with their responses. And read the whole thing out aloud! This is totally hilarious, rib-tickling fun!

An explosive shower?
Other party activities are designed to generate noise and excitement! Here's one for baby showers. Choose several baby names, including one that's mommy's favorite. Write all of them down on separate slips of paper. Insert each into individual balloons, inflate the balloons.

To play this party activity, announce a prize at the baby showers, for whoever gets the slip of paper with mommy's favorite name on it. How can the guests get the slips? By sitting on each balloon and exploding it. Each guest is allowed to sit on only one balloon at a time. Of course, have plenty of balloons ready! This is a good one to play!

A twist to the tray game
Some party activities like this one are a variation on other more common games at baby showers. The unexpected twist makes it better. Get a tray with about 10 - 15 baby items on it. Take it around to all the guests and let them have a good look at the contents. Don't tell them what it's all about.

Once that's done, mom-to-be take the tray and goes out of the room. Everyone will expect that you'll ask them to name the items on the tray. Instead, ask them about mommy-to-be: the color of her clothes, whether she was wearing a bracelet, the kind of shoes she had on, her height, etc! Enjoyable one for baby showers.

Expert advice for expectant mommy
Here is another of those party activities that produce side-splitting laughter at baby showers. Give everyone 3 x 5 cards, request them to write down a baby related question on one side. Examples - "How will you deal with colic?", "What should you do when baby cries at a wedding?", etc. Take the cards back, shuffle them well.

Now return the cards to the guests - at random. You should make it very unlikely that anyone has got the same card she did the first time round. Ask all guests to write down the answer to their original question on the reverse of the card they got. Take the cards back again and read out the question-answer combos on each card. This is one party activity that invariably results in people holding sides and laughing! Excellent choice for baby showers. Try it.

Trick bottle
There are party activities that look funny even when you see a photo of it, much later. At baby showers, have several baby bottles filled with beverage available. Could be fruit juice, water, etc. You should have sealed the nipple of one earlier, by over boiling it. Give the bottles to some of the guests.

The guest who finishes drinking from the baby bottle in the least time wins a prize. Have a camera ready - it's quite funny to see grown ups drinking from infant bottles! And even more so to watch the poor guest who has got the sealed bottle! This party activity is real fun at baby showers.
