Guide to creating an effective invitation for your baby shower

An invitation is the first thing about your baby shower that your guest sees - so obviously, it is quite important to give some thought to it. The right words and design in your invitation will make your guest want to come to the baby shower. And give her a glimpse of the spirit of these events. Let's look at the 'ingredients' of an invite for a baby shower. Names of the parents-to-be and the hostess are, of course, mandatory. As are the date, time and location of the shower. If several guests don't know how to get there, do include details on how to reach the venue.

It's a good idea to specifically state who is being invited. Is it only the person whose name appears on the invitation, or does it include their spouse, children, etc? Obviously depends on what kind of baby shower is being planned.

Do include full RSVP details in the invites. The contact person, her phone numbers, email address. Ask for their RSVP about two weeks before the baby shower. Not that everyone responds in such an organized fashion!

Using a gift registry is a great idea. Mention the details, if you use one.

Do you plan special games at the event? Would it require the guests to do something before they come for the party, or bring something along? Are there any dress requirements to fit with party themes? In all such instances, don't forget to include the information in your invites, so that the guests can come well prepared for your baby shower.

Are you planning a surprise celebration? If so, do let the guests know this fact through your invites! This will prevent slip ups like someone phoning the mommy-to-be before the baby shower and unintentionally spilling the beans!
