Group
games create involvement and fun at baby showers - that's why many
hostesses prefer to have one or a few. Unless there are specific
reasons not to have them, do include group games at your baby showers.
Despite what people say, it is possible to come up with original party
activities, or at least, new twists to existing ones. Try combining, or
altering one or more of these ideas below. Everyone loves a touch of
originality!
Start your brainstorming here. Later, I'll show you where you can access even more group games. Baby showers are enjoyable, lovely occasions, and party activities make them even more so.
Balloon and baskets:
Some group games are simple, yet difficult. Check this one out at your
baby showers. Place two laundry baskets in the room, at two ends. Get
lots of balloons to fill up one basket. Divide guests into a few teams
(2 or 3, depending on numbers). One person from a team starts the game.
She places
a balloon between her knees. Here's the tough part of this group game -
she's got to carry it to the other basket and drop it in without using
her hands! If she does that successfully, she runs back and the second
team member takes over and repeats the same task. If anyone drops a
balloon, she's not allowed to pick it up - she has to run back and the
next team member takes over and so on. The team with the most balloons
in the second basket wins. This game creates involvement at baby
showers.
Lengths of string:
This doesn't really get listed under group games, but still is a great
one for baby showers. Once the event is underway, pass a ball of string
around and ask everyone to cut a length for themselves. They'll think
it's for measuring mommy's tummy, so they'll cut accordingly. Now
announce that each guest has to talk about themselves, how they came to
know mom-to-be, etc while slowly wrapping the string around their
little finger! This is a great ice breaker. Try it.
Musical bottles:
More group games for baby showers. Seal the nipple of a baby bottle by
over boiling it. Get 2 or 3 other bottles (without sealed nipples).
Fill up each with beverages. Start the music. The guests keep passing
the bottles around while the music goes on and the guests left holding
the bottle when the music stops have to compete to drink from the
bottle in the minimum possible time.
Great fun, especially to watch the one with the sealed bottle! This one's good for co-ed events; get the men to compete!
Complete the story:
Some group games cause side-splitting laughs - here's one. Try it at
your baby showers. Before the event, write out a short story of how
mommy-to-be met her husband. Or maybe it could be about a trip
somewhere. Now remove important names, phrases, action verbs, etc from
the story. Replace them with numbers. Ask guests to choose a phrase /
name, etc for each number. Fill in the blanks with the chosen phrases.
Read the story aloud! Trust me; it'll turn out really funny!
Shrewd advice:
Hand out 3 X 5 cards to all guests; ask them to write down one question
related to babies. Example - "How do you stop baby pulling your hair
while you're carrying her?" Take back the cards, shuffle them. Now give
them back in random order. Get everyone to write down the answer to
their original question on the reverse of the card they've got. Read
out the questions and answers to the guests! This group game gets lots
of laughs at baby showers.
