Have
the right games to play at your baby showers - and you'll immediately
elevate the mood and excitement at your event. If many of the guests
are not acquainted with each other, having games to play at your baby
showers is almost a necessity. It's the best way to create involvement
among the guests. Below, you'll find party activities that have been
successfully used at showers. Use this list as a brainstorming tool -
and come up with original ideas.
Maybe you can combine some of these ideas and create new games to play.
Or perhaps you could dream up something totally new for your baby
showers. Think creatively, get together with a friend (or mommy-to-be)
and use your combined imaginations to cook up new party activities!
Bursting balloons
Some games to play at baby showers can be quite a blast. Try this one.
Get a large supply of balloons. Write down baby names on slips of
paper. Insert one slip into each balloon. At the shower, mommy-to-be
will announce her favorite name. The guests now have to explode the
balloons - by sitting on them - and read the slips of paper. A guest
can burst only one balloon at a time. The one who gets the name mommy's
selected is the winner. Simple but entertaining game!
Trick bottles
Other games to play at baby showers are just plain fun, like this one.
Get about three or four baby bottles. Seal the nipple on one of them by
over boiling it. Fill each with a beverage of your choice (water, fruit
juice, etc). Have the guests stand in a circle and start the music.
While the music's on, they keep passing the bottles to one another,
till the music stops. The 3 or 4 people left holding the bottles now
compete to finish drinking from the bottle in the least possible time.
It's vastly amusing to see grown ups drinking from baby bottles - especially the one who got the sealed nipple!
Of bags and faces
Sometimes the silliest games to play get the biggest laughs at baby
showers. Hand out large paper bags to everyone and ask them to put it
over their heads. Now tell them to take off any item that they don't
really need. Observe - they'll take off bracelets, rings, even some
clothing items - but most don't think of the paper bag at all! Whoever
does take the bag off first wins. Continue to ask the others to take
off whatever they don't need! If they still don't get it, tell them to
take off the bag!
This gets hilarious - try it and see.
Tic-tac-toe for baby showers
Many
games to play for baby showers are variants adapted from other
contexts. Like this one. Hand each guest a plain sheet of paper and a
pencil. She draws a tic-tac-toe board and fills the squares with words
related to baby articles. The hostess has a previously prepared list of
baby items. She calls them out and the guests check off each item that
appears on their list. Whoever gets a row, column or diagonal complete
first wins the game.
Expert counsel for mommy
There are games to play that'll always generate peals of laughter,
they're so funny. Do this at baby showers. Hand out 3 X 5 cards to the
guests. Have them write down one baby related question. E.g., "What'll
you do when baby cries during a party?" Now take all the cards back and
shuffle them well. Hand them out again - and ask them to write down the
answer to their original question on the other side of the card,
without looking at what question is actually written on the card. Read
out the questions and answers!
You'll get absurd, comical question-answer combinations!
