Fun and games for memorable baby showers

Many say the fun and games part of baby showers is what they enjoy most. Well, at least, they see it as a close second to eating great food! You must have observed that having the right kind of fun and games always results in greater participation and a better spirit at baby showers. I guess that's true of most parties.

This is especially so if many of the guests do not know each other at all. Perhaps the only person they know is the mommy-to-be. The best way to get them to mingle together is to have lots of fun and games at your baby showers.

I've listed several ideas for you to use. These fun and games ideas have been used with terrific results at baby showers. See this list as a device to trigger your own ideas - come up with unique activities for your events.

Carry the balloon fast!
This is a great way to start fun and games at baby showers. Place two laundry baskets at two ends of the room. Have a supply of balloons available, fill one basket with them. Get the guests to form two or three teams.

Someone from the first team starts the ball rolling by picking up a balloon from the basket and setting it between her knees / legs. This is where the fun and games begins - she's got to carry the balloon to the other basket and put it in - without touching the balloon with her hands! She's allowed to jump over the basket, if necessary. Once she does it (or she drops the balloon), she runs back and the second team mate takes over. Repeat the cycle; team with max balloons in wins. It's tough. And hilarious! Excellent for baby showers.

Funny bottle?
Try this one for laughter, fun and games at baby showers. Get a few baby bottles. Fill them with some beverage - water, fruit juice, etc. You should seal the nipple of one of the bottles in advance, by over boiling. Now hand the bottles over to the male guests - and have them compete to finish drinking in the least possible time! Take photos to your heart's content. Results in side-splitting laughter, especially watching the one who's got the sealed bottle!

Expert counsel
Here's how to convert sage advice into fun and games. Do this at your baby showers. Give everyone 3 X 5 cards. Get them to write down one question related to infants. (Like "What do you do when she wants to play at 3:00 am?") Ask everyone to give you the cards. Shuffle them and hand them out again at random.

On the reverse of their cards, the guests now write the answer to whatever question they had originally written (not the question on the card they now have). Now read out the question-answer combinations aloud. You'll get some really weird and comical answers! Wonderful idea for having fun and games at baby showers.

Cotton balls and bowls
Items needed for fun and games - supply of cotton balls, a large bowl, one large spoon, a blindfold. Blindfold one guest at a time, seat her at a table (or on the floor) with the cotton balls spread out before her.

Her task is to use the spoon to pick up the balls and get them into the bowl. Not easy! She can hold the bowl with her hand, although she can't tip it so that the edge is level with the floor (that would make it too easy!). Have all guests take part in these fun and games - the one with the most cotton balls in wins a prize at the baby shower!

Head in the bag
Needed - many large paper bags (kind you get at grocery stores). These sorts of fun and games ideas are quite silly - and very effective at baby showers! Ask everyone to put the bags over their heads. Now tell them to take off any item they don't really need. Watch in silence as they take off bracelets, rings, necklaces and some even a clothing item - but never think of the bag over their heads!! You'll actually have to tell many to remove that bag - because that's the item they don't need!
